Faith Matters

As more and more of today’s couples choose to proclaim their vows outside of a church building, the need for faith-filled options that are transportable has increased. Some feel that nature, itself is a magnificent background and places their beginnings in the middle of God’s creation.  

Others find the need to proclaim their promise before the cross. Whether a cross is the focal point of the ceremony backdrop or off to the side as shown in the images below, there are ways to incorporate a promise made before God, family, and friends. The table with the small cross and three ropes allowed the couple to braid the rope so it became one. Ecclesiastes 4:12 says that “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (NIV) In braiding the strands together, the couple is essentially saying that they need God to stay strong in their marriage, and if they do, it cannot come undone.

Other couples may find a more personal way to make their promises to one another. Below a couple used a canvas to each paint a half circle, which when completed, made a full circle. While this was a beautiful and unique way to acknowledge that this couple’s promise was for eternity, circles have always found their place in the marriage ceremony, such as with exchanging rings or even decorating with wreaths.

Here the couple used our beautiful white mantel and on the small side table, placed a Bible and some other decor. This signified that God’s Word would be an important part in their marriage. They each took a candle representing their separate lives and then before the Holy Word, lit one candle to signify becoming one flesh. Partaking communion together, similarly acknowledges Christ will be the center of their marriage.
